FOR many of the Strathdale-Maristians’ players who were long-time opponents of Heath Behrens, they consider the fact the BDCA’s greatest run-scorer of all-time never made a century against them a badge of honour.
Behrens made 28 centuries in his record-setting career for the Redbacks, belting tons against every opposition – except the Suns.
Centuries against the Suns through the best part of two decades have traditionally been hard to come by.
Through the 19 BDCA seasons from 1999-2000 to 2017-18 the Suns had just 20 tons scored against them in 241 games.
Yet this season it has become a familiar sight to see an opposition batsman raising his bat for reaching three figures against the Suns.
Of the 18 centuries scored in the BDCA this season, five have come at the expense of Strathdale-Maristians, with Huntly-North Epsom’s Ryan Grundy (102 n.o.) the latest to do so last Saturday.
Grundy joins Bendigo United’s Tyson Templeton (116 n.o.), Sandhurst’s Joel Murphy (100 n.o.), Golden Square’s Ben Gunn (155 n.o.) and Kangaroo Flat No.9 Dylan Klemm (103) with a ton against the Suns this season.
• BDCA centuries scored against this season:
Strathdale-Maristians – 5
Bendigo United – 3
Strathfieldsaye – 3
White Hills – 3
Huntly-North Epsom – 2
Bendigo, Sandhurst – 1
