The comedy operetta from famed musical duo Gilbert and Sullivan sees Jessie Austin play the jilted plaintiff Angelina opposite Dan Sexton as Edwin the defendant.

Apollo Productions president Fiona Beckwith-Elmi said Trial by Jury isn’t performed very often.

“It’s not a a big hit like Pirates of Penzance or HMS Pinafore. It is lesser known but equally as funny and takes big jibe at the legal system,” she said.

“We have this had on our list (to perform) for a long time and were able to cast the right people and have the right venue in St Paul’s.

“We last performed this in 1993 and thought it was time to get it out again and let a new audience see it.” 

Rob Blum, Bernie Street and Ally Grenfell will take on the other lead roles along side Sexton and Austin.

Director Terence Carroll said the whole cast were an impressive collection of singers.

“Our cast of Bendigo’s finest performers are immersed in an intensive six-week summer rehearsal period,” he said.

“Apollo has assembled a stellar cast of principals to perform the lead roles.”
