Xavier Crone claimed the prized scalp of former Australian Test keeper-batsman Peter Nevill on day one of the Futures League clash in Melbourne.
The Strathfieldsaye product bowled first change for Victoria and had Nevill caught behind for 10 in NSW Metro's first innings score of 260.
Crone also picked up the wicket of opener Jordan Gauci for 21 and finished with figures of 2-26 off 12 overs.
Former Bendigo all-rounder James Seymour made his Futures League debut and was two not out at stumps.
Seymour, who took a catch in the field, and fellow opener Eamonn Vines (three not out) survived a tough five over session and Victoria will resume on Tuesday at 0-5.
