The alleged theft came as crowds camped overnight in bushland around Echuca for the Southern 80, Acting Inspector David Rowe said.
A 28-year-old Crib Point man was arrested Sunday morning.
“He has also been charged with recklessly causing injury in relation to the owner of the bike trying to stop him taking it,” Acting Inspector Rowe said.
Victoria Police arrested eight others overnight for minor offences relating to alcohol.
One 28-year-old from Kialla will face court for assaulting police. Acting Inspector Rowe said the incident happened as they arrested him for minor offences.
More police and court news:
Police had also charged a 26-year-old Pakenham man with possessing a drug of dependence.
Crowds were packing up after a weekend at the Southern 80.
Acting Inspector Rowe said they had been mostly well-behaved, though there had been those who had failed to comply with campfire regulations as they camped in bushland near the race route.
Over the years behaviour at the Southern 80 had improved, Acting Inspector Rowe said.
“That has a lot to do with the way we plan and approach it,” he said.
Our licences premises are managed a lot better as well. They don’t just see the event as a cash cow.”
