The exhibition of the lanterns to royalty references a visit by Prince Albert Victor and Prince George to Bendigo in 1881.
According to the Bendigo Advertiser on July 6, 1881, Williamson Street stores were decorated with a number of Chinese lanterns to welcome the princes.
Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits is at Bendigo Art Gallery on March 16 to July 14. It explores five royal dynasties and highlights major events in British (and world) history from the 16th century to the present.
The exhibition will feature works by prominent international artists from the past five centuries.
