More than 120 prospective Bendigo Pioneers players hit the Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve turf on Sunday morning.
With the club to cut its squad to 75 players this week, it was the final chance for some players to push their case for selection.
“The boys battled through (the conditions) really well and the endeavour and effort levels were very high,’’ Pioneers coach Rick Coburn said.
“We were very pleased with the way the boys conducted themselves.”
The trial games were the start of a hectic period for the Pioneers.
“The 75 players will get the opportunity to participate in our training weekend on February 16-17 and then the following weekend we play Calder Cannons in two practice matches,’’ Coburn said.
“After that we’ll cut the squad down to the final list of about 45 players.
The final squad will play a practice match against Ballarat and then we have the TAC Cup fitness testing on the weekend of March 9-10.
“Our final practice game is against Murray on March 17 and we’ll be ready to start on March 24.”
