Central Victoria could experience some relief from the heat later day, with possible thunderstorms on the way.
The Bureau of Meteorology advises thunderstorms are possible across an area encompassing Bendigo, Echuca and Castlemaine.
The area of Hepburn and Hepburn Springs, which is under threat from bushfire, is also within this area.
A forecast cool change sweeping across the state is forecast to reach Bendigo about 8pm.
Bendigo is expected to reach a top of 39 degrees on Sunday, as is Echuca.
Maryborough and Redesdale have a forecast high of 40 degrees, Castlemaine 38 degrees, and Kyneton 37 degrees.
