NEW Colbinabbin recruit Todd Bryant looms as one of the premier midfielders in the Heathcote District league this year.
The Grasshoppers have announced the signing of Bryant, who joins Colbinabbin with a stacked footballing CV that includes representing the Ovens and Murray league, winning the Ovens and Murray Rising Star in 2008, winning club best and fairests in three different leagues and also having coaching experience.
“He’s a quality player who for someone who is still only 27 has done a fair bit already in his career,” Colbinabbin coach Julian Bull said.
Bryant played more than 100 senior games with the Wodonga Raiders in the O and M, while he has also played with Palm Beach Currumbin in Queensland’s state competition and last year coached Woodside in the North Gippsland league.
“He won a couple of best and fairests up in Queensland and made a couple of team of the years up there before relocating to Gippsland where he has done some coaching and had a couple of cracking seasons as well,” Bull said.
“He’s a midfielder who gets forward and kicks a few goals and has great leadership attributes.
“And he’s moving to the local area as well, which is really positive for us because he will be able to train with the group.”
The addition of Bryant continues a productive off-season recruiting campaign for the Grasshoppers, who were beaten in the preliminary final last year.
The Grasshoppers’ recruiting has also landed Daniel Connors, Matt Riordan, Jono Barnett, Shannon Broadbent, Jeremy Morgan, Ben Southam, Seamus Bromley and Sam Bowers.
However, they have lost Elliot Bowen, Mitch Bright, Daniel Hill, Will Lowe, Tim O’Dwyer and Mitch McEvoy.
The Grasshoppers play Elmore in round one.
