This year he went through it again while waiting for an offer to take on a Masters of Teaching at La Trobe University Bendigo.
“It is just as nerve wracking the second time around,” Mr Boorn said. “You desperately want it and you’re just waiting and waiting for it to come through. When it does it is really exciting.

“Now I just want to accept the offer, start the application and be ready to go for the new semester.”
Aspiring to be a science and math teacher, the 21-year-old completed a Bachelor of Science before turning his attention to learning how to teach.
“It has always been the plan to go into teaching but I didn’t feel like I wanted to do an education course,” Mr Boorn said. “I wanted to do a lot more maths and science first and then get my teaching qualifications.”
“(This way) I was able to go further into maths and science and learn a lot more.
“At the end of (my masters) I will be qualified to teach years 7 to 10 in general science and maths, and chemistry, physics and maths to years 11 and 12.”
Mr Boorn was born and raised in Bendigo and was eager to keep studying in regional Victoria.
“(La Trobe) was a great fit for me. I went to Bendigo South East College and Bendigo Senior (Secondary College) and returning to teach there would be a massive thing for me,” he said.
“I don’t know how likely it will be but I’ll be trying for placement there when the time comes.”
La Trobe University Bendigo head of campus Rob Stephenson said between 75 and 80 percent of university graduates stay in regional areas.
“We try to be aware of what’s happening with workforce needs in the area,” he said.
“In speaking with principals from (the region’s) schools, maths and science is what they are short of in local areas. So there is lots of opportunities if not in Bendigo, then close to it.
“With the new Bendigo Tech School opening up, the opportunities to develop those science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills are fantastic.”
