BENDIGO’S Maddy Theobald is preparing to again showcase her skills at April’s Cheerleading World Championships in Florida.
Theobald will compete with her team, Lady Reign, which earned a coveted berth at the invitation-only event after a strong performance at the National Championships held in Queensland in November after placing third on day one and second on day two.
Lady Reign is a level five team based out of Southern Cross Cheerleading in Northcote.
Theobald, 21, travels to Melbourne three times a week to train at Southern Cross Cheerleading and was recently named Lady Reign’s most outstanding performer for 2018 after a hectic year of competition.
“We are a competitive team meaning we do not cheer for a particular sports team, but compete in routines around Australia, similar to gymnastics,” Theobald said on Wednesday.
Theobald’s trip to Florida in April will be her second time competing at the Cheerleading World Championships.
She also competed on the world stage in 2017 and finished seventh out of 43 teams in the International Open All Girls Level 5 division.
“Finishing seventh in the world last time was an amazing achievement for our first trip and we are honoured to be invited back,” said Theobald, who is also a coach with the Bendigo Blaze Pom team.
