Tony O’Loughlin, I’m a lineworker for Powercor in Bendigo.
How long have you been doing that for?
I’ve worked in this business for 31 years. I started when I was 16 in Benalla for the SEC then moved to Bendigo and have worked for Powercor since then.
What are you doing today?
Today we connected supply to six new homes in the Bendigo area, we also have been dealing with a power quality issue to a property where an electrician has reported low voltages.
In conjunction with using data from the smart meter we have determined more detailed investigation is required using precision monitoring equipment to determine the cause.
Why did you decide to become a linie?
I wanted an outside role as I could not see myself in an office job, coming from a farming background I enjoy driving trucks and tractors.
It was my mother who suggested the SEC, when I asked her what they did her understanding was they looked after the powerlines and poles, they fixed the power faults when the power went out.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I like the variety in my job as I have an mixture of outdoor and indoor work.
My main role is with the supply-power quality group in Bendigo assisting customers with high and low voltage issues. This includes fault work and maintenance.
I’m also involved with Powercor mobile generator group where we install semi trailer size generators to keep supply on for customers during fault and maintenance works.
What’s your passion? What do you really care about?
My main passion is my partner and family. Spending quality times together and watching my daughters grow up into wonderful adults. I love our get togethers, dinners and trips to the movies.
What’s your Bendigo story?
I moved to Bendigo when I was 20 and have since watched my two daughter complete their schooling and step into the work force.

I’m also a very active member of the Rockin 50’s Rock ‘n Roll Club in Bendigo.
I’ll regularly be seen dancing at Lake Weeroona’s Australia Day celebrations with my daughters, also Wednesday nights assisting teaching Rock and Roll at the Bendigo Club.
What do you do on your Saturday morning?
Spending quality time with my partner, as it always feels the weeknights are far too short, and time with her horse Molly. This weekend I’m looking forward to a family get together when my sister and family fly in from Townsville.
