Two of the region’s most talented veterans, Chisholm and Gilligan starred at the 100m hurdles and long jump respectively.
Round five in non-Shield action drew competitors as young as nine to those in their 70s to the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road, Flora Hill.
On the track, Chisholm’s time of 18.72 seconds in the 100m hurdles became a centre record for the 50-plus class.
Gilligan’s leap of 6.14 metres at long jump is the new Centre record for the 40-plus division.
There were many outstanding performances as athletes continued their build-up to this weekend’s Victorian Multi-Event championships to be hosted by Athletics Bendigo, or the Country Championships at LUBAC on the Australia Day holiday weekend.
University’s Anthony Messerle almost hit the 45m mark as he reached 44.86m in the javelin contest.
Fastest in the 100m dash were Eaglehawk’s’ Jamie Harrison, 12.04; and Bendigo Harriers’ Jalen Hoskin, 13.89.
There were some closely-fought finishes in the 400m heats.
Harrison made it a double as he won heat one 50.90 from Eaglehawk’s James Bentley, 53.00, and Brett Gilligan, 54.47.
Other heat winners were Luke Matthews from Bendigo Harriers; South Bendigo’s Zackery Tickell; and Reeve Evans from Bendigo Harriers.
The first of the women’s 400m contests was won in fine style by Gretel Holmes from Bendigo Harriers in 1:00.54.
South Bendigo’s Keely Trew and Mackenzie Southern took outs heats two and three.
In the 1500m, South Bendigo young gun Logan Tickell put in a superb run to win the first heat in 4:50.89, from Isaac Everett of Bendigo Harriers, and South Bendigo’s Sebastyn Andrea.
The longer distance runs were won by Bendigo Harriers club-mates Ian Wellard, 3000m, and Peter Cowell, 5000m.
The Bendigo Harriers’ line-up of Brett Gilligan, Danai Mahachi, Seth Hoskin and Daniel Baldwin won the 4 x 100m relay in 47.32 seconds.
The walks were won by University’s Andrea Smith, 1500m; and Eaglehawk’s Barb Bryant, 3000m.
Best at long jump were Bendigo Harriers club-mates Brett Gilligan, 6.14m, and Seth Hoskin, 5.20m; and Eaglehawk’s Kenan Seebah, 5.14m, and Denise Snyder, 5.06m.
At shot put, Eaglehawk’s James Bentley achieved a great mark of 10.79m as University’s Anthony Messerle, 9.79m, was runner-up.
Others to impress included Poppy Palmer, 9.74m; Terry Hicks, 9.23m; and Anastazia Robinson, 8.55m, from Eaglehawk AC.
