Tormey was the lone Bendigo driver or trainer to end Saturday night with a winner after she partnered the South Merbein-trained Flojos Gold ($20.20) to an upset victory in the Strath Village IGA Pace (1650m).
The six-year-old mare settled second last in the run, but produced a barnstorming finish to overhaul the Emma Stewart –trained Rock Classic ($6.10) and short-price favourite Beach Surge ($1.80) in the shadows of the post.
It was the third-straight win for Flojos Gold and Tormey, following wins in lesser grade events at Mildura in November and December.
Meanwhile, the two locally-trained hopes in the pacing cup – Bernie Winkle (Glenn Douglas) and Animated (Graeme Dalton) – had to settle for fifth and ninth places.
While Bendigo trainer/driver Chris Svanosio had to settle for second place in the Great Ocean Road Real Estate Trot with Crazy Ben.
