Country Fire Authority operations officer Ashley Baker said District 02 was fortunate to escape the day with no serious fires.
Fire crews were on standby to respond as temperatures climbed into the 40s, accompanied by gusty winds.
Despite the conditions it was a “clean day” in District 02, with no major fires.
Bendigo’s temperature peaked on Friday at 43.8 degrees, at 4.25pm. Temperatures peaked in Redesdale at 43.6 at 4.30pm.
“It was probably our biggest day this year so far,” Mr Baker said.
“Sometimes it’s just luck. We didn’t have any lighting come through during the severe time, during that heatwave, and obviously people doing the right thing.”
Mr Baker warned people in central Victoria that the fire danger period was not over yet.
Many of central Victoria’s past big fires have taken place in February.
“We’ve got another six to eight weeks of potential fire weather,” Mr Baker said.
“It’s an important time to remind people to be vigilant around high risk activities during those heightened fire days.”
He urged the community to stay up to date on fires in their area using the VicEmergency app.
