Belgravia Leisure, the company that manages the facility, confirmed a four-year-old boy got his foot lodged in an inlet valve of the indoor water slide, which required emergency service personnel to break it to free him.
The little boy was uninjured, but assessed by paramedics at the scene.
The slide will remain closed while repairs and an assessment are undertaken, including on Friday, when temperatures are expected to peak at 45 degrees in Bendigo.
“It’s unfortunate that the slide needs to be closed on a day when it will be popular with our younger guests,” Belgravia Leisure area manager Rod Simms said.
“Our equipment is inspected daily and the safety of our members and guests is paramount, and we’ll inform the community when the slide will be operational again. Hopefully, it will be a short turnaround.”
The boy’s mother said he had been going down the slide for hours before his foot became stuck, and praised emergency service workers and centre staff.
EARLIER: Emergency services have freed a child stuck in a slide at the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Kangaroo Flat.
Jacob Morgan from the Kangaroo Flat CFA said the youngster caught his foot in an open section of the slide in the splash play section of the facility and firefighters had to remove a small section of a panel to free him.
The child was being assessed by paramedics at the scene.
The $32.2 million health facility opened to the public in October.
It features a 50m, eight-lane swimming pool, beach entry leisure pool, a learn-to-swim pool, splash park, warm water exercise pool and spas, a steam room and sauna, a gym and group fitness rooms, a childcare and multipurpose room, health and wellness centre and a cafe.
