Klemm wrote his name into the BDCA history books by belting the competition’s 16^th double century.

But his 201 against White Hills at Harry Trott Oval was in a losing cause, with the Redbacks all out for 343 chasing the Demons’ 360.

Batting at No.3, Klemm struck 12 boundaries and faced 216 balls in an innings where he had a slice of luck given he was at the non-striker’s end on 199 when No.11 Billy Quirk had a caught behind chance spilt.

A double century in just his third innings for a new club – not a bad way for Klemm to impress new team-mates.

v Strathdale-Maristians

Gunn’s 15^th BDCA century was one of absolute brilliance in a rain-affected one-day win over Strathdale-Maristians at Wade Street.

In a game reverted to ordinary conditions, Square had 35 overs to either play safely for a draw or have a crack at the Suns’ 6-221.

Thanks to Gunn’s blazing 155 n.o. off 101 balls – his second score above 150 in a BDCA one-dayer – Square did it with ease, reaching 5-222 in the 30^th over.

More than 100 of Gunn’s runs came through fours (14) and sixes (eight), with his innings moving him into the BDCA’s top 10 for most centuries by a player.

v Bendigo United

Palamandadidge’s classy 132 led a run-feast as the Dragons smashed 7-329 off 45 overs in their one-day match against Bendigo United at Weeroona Oval.

On a Sunday afternoon, the Sri Lankan plundered 14 fours and two sixes in his 105-ball stay at the crease, with he and Darby Semmens (29) getting the Dragons off to a strong start with a 126-run opening partnership.

Palamandadidge’s ton against the Redbacks was among a string of three hundreds in four knocks during a purple patch of form.

Career century No.11 for stalwart Bowles came in the same game in which Klemm cracked his double century.

Showing plenty of patience, Bowles batted for 269 minutes and 227 balls on his way to 128 in the Demons’ monster 9-360 at Harry Trott Oval.

Bowles was one of two century-makers for the Demons, with the innings also memorable for Ollie Geary’s maiden ton in which he smacked 106 off just 86 balls, with the pair adding 165 for the third wicket.

Woodman already had a first XI century in Premier Cricket with Carlton to his name, but this knock against the Redbacks at Harry Trott Oval was his first for Square.

His 127 was part of a batting blitz in which Square smashed the BDCA’s highest score of 2018 – 5-383 after they had been 1-8 before Woodman began his 195-ball stay at the crease.

If it wasn’t hard enough for the Redbacks’ bowlers dealing with Woodman, they also had to contend with a 77 off 51 onslaught from Ben Gunn against his former team.

A century in an outright victory and a knock in which West outscored White Hills on his own in the first innings.

West’s unbeaten 117 – his fourth career century – came after the Demons had been routed for just 107 at Scott Street earlier in the day.

But West didn’t just torment the Demons with the bat, he also took three catches in the field.

v Strathfieldsaye

December 8

The Sandhurst recruit took just five innings to score his first ton for his new club with 117 on the QEO against Strathfieldsaye.

Combe – recruited from the Horsham Saints – struck 18 boundaries and faced 191 balls as the reigning premier Dragons answered Strathfieldsaye’s 168 with 9-293.

A tidy 2-26 off 14 overs with the ball capped a solid all-round game from the quality all-rounder.

It has been a tough 2018 for the Redbacks, who didn’t win a home and away game in 2018, but Templeton provided some fireworks with an entertaining century against the Suns at Bell Oval.

Chasing the Suns’ 305, the result appeared a foregone conclusion when the Redbacks were teetering at 7-142 just after tea.

While the Suns did win the game, Templeton went down swinging, blasting 116 off 109 with 10 fours and eight sixes batting at No.7 to lift the Redbacks to a gallant 269.

v Eaglehawk

No player in the history of the Power from its formation in 2001-02 has had a day out with the ball like Ward did at Canterbury Park against the ladder-leading Hawks.

Ward took the first five wickets of the innings to fall on the way to the Power’s best club figures of 8-39 off 21 overs as the Hawks were all out for 111 chasing 8-219.

Seven of Ward’s wickets were catches taken by either Shehan De Silva (four) or wicket-keeper Brodie McRae (three).

March 3

Trollope’s 7-18 off 14 overs on the eve of the 2018 finals is the best performance by a Golden Square bowler during the 2000s.

Trollope led a rout in which White Hills was bundled out for just 64 at Scott Street, with his seven wickets including the last six of the innings.

Among Trollope’s seven wickets were four lbw dismissals as well as one caught and bowled, making five of his scalps unassisted.

His team didn’t win, but Bendigo’s Alex Pearson had a BDCA finals debut to remember individually with a seven-wicket semi-final bag against Strathdale-Maristians at Bell Oval.

In what was the BDCA’s third-best finals bowling performance of the 2000s, Pearson snared 7-50 off 19.1 overs – five of his wickets coming from nicks through to wicket-keeper Shane Koop.

For the fourth time in his career the leg-spinner bagged at least seven wickets in the Suns’ win over Bendigo United at Bell Oval.

Took four of his wickets during a Redbacks’ collapse in which they fell from 1-94 to 5-116, but also copped a bit of stick after tea from Tyson Templeton, with this the same game in which he made his unbeaten 116.

February 17-24

Beard’s six-for came in a rare BDCA result in modern times – a reverse outright win.

Taylor’s 6-24 off 20 overs featuring 10 maidens was taken in the second innings of a game in which the Power made 99 batting first, then bowled the Dragons out for 92 –  all inside the first day at Strauch Reserve.

The following week with Beard leading the way the Power were bowled out in their second innings for 72, leaving the Dragons needing 80 for the reverse outright win, which they chased down for the loss of six wickets.

Hasn’t played much of late, but Devanny enjoyed a career-best day with the ball against the Power at Tannery Lane with 6-28 off 19 overs.

At one stage during the innings Devanny took five wickets in a row on what was a bowler-dominated day across the BDCA where all batting teams struggled.

The Power were all out for 130, while elsewhere around the competition that day in early February it was carnage – Golden Square all out 142; Strathdale all out 133; Bendigo all out 121 and Bendigo United all out 119.

Trollope’s seven-for in the White Hills-Golden Square clash back in March wasn’t the only fine bowling feat.

Spread across days one and two of the game, Demons’ skipper Winter-Irving claimed 6-38 off 15 overs in what’s his best day with the ball in his five seasons at White Hills.

Making up for his duck with the bat, Winter-Irving had a hand in seven wickets. As well as the six he took with the ball, he also ran out Jamie Bysouth.

v Strathdale-Maristians

One of the recruits of the 2018-19 season has been Stockdale, who has added a new dimension to the Hawks’ attack with his leg-spin.

He spun the Hawks to victory over the Suns at Canterbury Park with 6-41 off 29 overs, which also included 14 maidens.

Team-mate Josh Williams provided fine support in the field, taking three catches off Stockdale’s bowling.

A handy 30 in the middle-order with the bat on day one also showcased Stockdale’s all-round value.
