Police relocated from stations
Two central Victorian police officers are on alternate duties pending a professional standards investigation. The Bendigo Advertiser understands these officers are based in Elmore and Goornong, both towns with single-officer police stations. Read more from Natalie Croxon.
School’s over. Now, what’s next?
Students across central Victoria finished off their high school years by opening their VCE results yesterday. Elspeth Kernebone talks to the high achievers and hard workers, and tracks down the celebrations, in her coverage.
If you didn’t get the mark you wanted, don’t despair. There’s still hope. In our Weekender feature Cass Dalgleish catches up with four locals and finds that a low ATAR score was the beginning, not the end, of their career dreams.
Top bowlers of the 2000s
The Bendigo District Cricket Association’s top days out with a ball are the focus of our exclusive analysis of local performers over nearly two decades. Luke West looks at the club stand outs of this century and provides background and context to their performances. A not-to-be missed special for cricket fans.

OPINION
The 12 ‘Bah! Humbugs’ of Christmas
Is the festive season getting you down? Do you wish it was over, already? In a homage to the great author Charles Dickens and his essential Christmas reading A Christmas Carol, Juanita Greville presents The 12 ‘Bah! Humbugs’ of Christmas. Even the great miser Ebenezer Scrooge would be impressed.
So long and goodnight
Our columnist, former Bendigo Advertiser editor and local identity, Wayne Gregson, has written his final Bushwacked column. In his words: “About three weeks ago some very nice, compassionate people told me I had an aggressive cancer. It is inoperable and untreatable.” He leaves us with a compassionate, funny and poignant piece, LastWhack.
THINGS TO DO
Bendigo Carols by Candlelight
It was touch and go on where the Bendigo Carols by Candlelight on Sunday night would be held, given more rain is on the horizon. Would it be in Rosalind Park? Or in the exhibition centre at the showgrounds? The decision is in. Find out whether you’re packing a picnic blanket and brolly, or you’ll be undercover.
What’s On
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, why not try a Dr Who convention, a park run or an exhibition of Frida Kahlo’s photographs. There’s something for everybody in our Entertainment This Week.
