Teenagers from several clubs were in great form across a wide range of disciplines at the Latrobe University Bendigo Athletics Complex.
Reid set a cracking pace from the gun and completed the Mile in 4:31.59 from Melbourne University’s Matthew Schepisi in 4:44.67.
On the eve of his 12th birthday, Logan Tickell from South Bendigo ran the distance in 5:17 to be fourth overall.
Eaglehawk’s Olivia Graham marked a season-best and personal best of 47.04m in hammer throw.
Daughter and father, Olivia and Craig Graham were one-two on the result sheet in the hammer throw.
Olivia’s mark with the 4kg hammer is closing in on the record of 48.53m held at open and under-20 level by Roxanne Kellow from Bendigo Harriers since early January in 2013.
The first of the women’s 100m heats was won by Bendigo Harriers’ Gretel Holmes in 13.37 from Eaglehawk’s Laura Kadri, 13.48, and Claire McCay from Harriers in 13.51.
Lifeguarding commitments meant Eaglehawk’s sprint ace Kye Mason could not race this round.
James Miller from Harriers won the first of the men’s 100m heats in 11.34.
Eaglehawk’s Kenan Seebah won his 100m and 200m heats.
Ben Powell from Bendigo Harriers ran 22.87 to be fastest in the 200m.
Glenhuntly’s Tarli Bird won the 3000m in 10:44 as Harriers’ veteran Peter Cowell fought on to be runner-up in 11:19.
University’s Andrea Smith won an exciting 1500m walk against Eaglehawk’s Barb Bryant as they powered to the line in times of 8:41 and 8:42 respectively.
James Miller cleared 1.85m at high jump, and Harriers’ Jemuel Pryse, 11.75m; Kade McCay, 11:03; and Eaglehawk’s Denise Snyder, 10.78m, were best at triple jump.
University’s Anthony Messerle hurled the discus to a mark of 35.34m.
Mackenzie Cooper from Bendigo Harriers added to his streak in shot put as he reached a best of 11.57m, and Eaglehawk’s Poppy Palmer, 9.54m, performed well.
Round eight in Athletics Victoria’s Shield competition is on Saturday from 1.30pm at Latrobe University Bendigo Athletics Complex in Retreat Road.
