The Bureau of Meterology is predicting the heaviest falls will be in northern and north-eastern Victoria, with showers and thunderstorms moving through from the west on Wednesday night.
Senior Meteorologist from the Bureau of Meterology, Tom Delamotte, said it would be a warm day on Wednesday, with humid air from New South Wales moving into western Victoria during the day.
He said as the trough moved into central Victoria early on Thursday morning there would be wide-spread rainfall and thunderstorms.
Mr Delamotte said central Victoria should expect 20-40mm of rain, with isolated falls of 60mm.
The northern country could expect 30-60mm with isolated patches of 90mm-100mm of rain.
“The risk will be from flash flooding due to heavy rainfalls,” he said
Mr Delamotte said a severe weather warning is likely to be issued on Wednesday as the BOM continued to track the front and pinpoint where the heaviest falls are likely.
