The man pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday to the two offences, which occurred in August this year.
The court heard the police pulled the man over in Hattam Street, Golden Square, where they found his licence had been suspended in July for six months, for accruing too many demerit points.
His vehicle registration had expired in May.
The court heard the man told police he did not know his licence was suspended and thought his vehicle was registered until November.
In court on Monday, the man said he had “no idea” he was suspended, telling magistrate Sarah Leighfield he had moved houses and not provided his new address to authorities.
He told the court he had experienced the death of a parent and a relationship breakdown around that time.
The man asked he be fined instead of having his licence suspension extended, which the prosecution agreed was appropriate.
In fining the man, Ms Leighfield took into account his guilty plea and his circumstances.
She reminded the man to ensure he notified VicRoads of any change of address in the future.
