EAGLEHAWK landed the first blow of the BBD weekend pennant season on Bendigo East on Saturday.
In what was a clash between the two favourites to feature in March’s grand final, the reigning premier Hawks inflicted the first defeat of the season on the Beasties with a 14-shot win.
The Hawks continued their red-hot form with their 102-88 victory at home.
Since their upset loss to Golden Square in the opening round, the Hawks have now reeled off six consecutive wins.

The Hawks held a slender two-shot lead at afternoon tea and maintained the advantage for the rest of the game, with their lead growing to as many as 18.
The Hawks had three rinks up, including that of newly-crowned Australian fours champion Darren Burgess, who skipped his side to a 24-18 victory over his former team-mate Brad Marron.
While the Beasties were beaten, the rink of Lee Schraner kept its unblemished record intact with a 30-25 win over Brayden Byrne.
The Eaglehawk rink of Dean Carter made it four wins in a row with a 29-19 triumph over Aaron Tomkins in a battle of what have been two of the competition’s top rinks this season.
Despite the loss, Bendigo East remains top of the ladder, but is now just two points clear of the Hawks.
• South Bendigo’s form slump continued, suffering a third-straight loss at the hands of Bendigo.
Bendigo prevailed 89-75 at South Bendigo to consolidate its season record at 4-3.
For the second game in a row Torie Babitsch (+7), Andrew Brown (+3) and Damian Broderick (+7) were all winning skippers for Bendigo.
Having started the season 4-0, South Bendigo is now 4-3 and has won just four of 12 rinks during its three losses in a row.
• For the first time in its past 30 games Castlemaine savoured a clean sweep win to move off the bottom of the ladder.
The Maine demolished Inglewood 105-70, with the two biggest of their four wins being Greg Podesta’s rink defeating Daryl Rowley 29-16 for its first victory of the season and Rod Phillips accounting for Lindsay Kelly 25-14.
The result mas a massive crash landing for Inglewood, which the previous week had notched its first win of the season.
• In the closest game of the round Kangaroo Flat edged out Golden Square 92-86.
Both teams had two rinks up, but it was Paul Moller’s 26-18 win over Daryl Cheeseman that proved decisive for the Flat.
