The Bendigo line is among those affected as the mercury soars close to 40 degrees in central Victoria.
V/Line has advised that trains may travel at reduced speeds and alternate travel will be made available for those affected by service changes.
Typically, V/Line brings in restrictions when the temperature hits 36 degrees out of concern that steel tracks will expand in the heat.
Today’s restrictions apply on the Bendigo line from noon until 8pm.
The 4.25pm train to Epsom will terminate at Bendigo while the 4.57pm to Eaglehawk will finish at Kyneton.
Those heading to Southern Cross will be able to catch up with the 3.50pm train at Bendigo, the 4.34pm train at Kyneton, the 5.26pm train at Kyneton and the 6.35pm train at Bendigo.
The Bendigo line is one of four regional train tracks affected. The others are Seymour, Geelong and Ballarat.
