Throughout the month of November one word dominated conversation in the streets, schools, eateries and over the bar in the small town of Pyramid Hill – Movember.

Throughout the month, about 15 local blokes grew a mo, and they were hard to miss!
Passers-by could be forgiven for thinking they’d spotted Boonie out tending to a few sheep, or that Merv Hughs had somehow ended up behind the bar in the town’s only pub.
Needless to say, plenty of laughs were had over the subject, while locals also had a friendly competition of who could raise the most money for the cause.
Of course, this was exactly the point, to raise awareness and funds to support men’s health.
The month came to a close with a “Shave Off” in the pub. It was standing room only in the bar as kids, men and women from all around the area watched the men lose the moustaches which had become their precious project for the last 30 days.

A few local men courageously spoke to the crowd about their own struggles with mental health, or losing a loved one.
Some blokes decided to shave only half their mo - flying half mast for the 468 men lost to suicide, prostate or testicular cancer in the month of November. Of course, this made for a rough looking crowd and delivered plenty of laughs!
Two men, Kelvin Matthews and Stephen Roberts went the extra mile- shaving their beards which had each been growing for more than three years.
Every business in the small town generously donated raffle prizes: from meat trays, to local preserves, to free meals and even a swag.
During the month of November the town of Pyramid Hill, population 500, raised a whopping $9672 for Movember.
The Aussie spirit is still going strong in our little country towns.
