The school’s students have been developing their mastery of the game throughout Term 4, with help from staffers and VCAL students from Catherine McAuley College.
Scope has been coordinating the activity, rounding out what Bendigo Special Developmental School teacher Brigitte Moore called a ‘wonderful community partnership.’
She said Balloon Football provided opportunities for students with complex physical needs to be engaged in a competitive and social team sport.
“Students have thoroughly enjoyed the movement, sounds and social aspects balloon footy provides,” Ms Moore said.
The Scope Balloon Football League is a modified version of AFL played on a basketball court with Auskick goal posts and a large balloon for a ball.
Players use wheelchairs and teams are five a side. The league has a 20-year history.
