FOUR athletes with links to Flack Advisory Bendigo Region clubs will represent Victoria at this weekend’s Australian All Schools athletics championships in Cairns.

South Bendigo’s field star Emma Berg and distance running ace Taryn Furletti; Bendigo Harriers’ sprinter Antonio Vaitohi, and former Harriers hurdles champ Fraser Symons will compete.
Berg’s campaign begins in the under-18s discus on Friday. The Swan Hill College student was in superb form at the School Sport Victoria track and field titles at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.
Berg won gold in the 17-years discus, javelin and shot put. The teenager will be aiming to improve on a mark of 44.24m which earned gold in discus at the SSV titles.
In Sunday’s action, Berg will contest the under-18 shot put from 11.30am.
Her mark of 14.77m at shot put broke the SSV record.
A student at Notre Dame College in Shepparton, Vaitohi won the 15-years 100m in 11.12 seconds and the 200m in 22.21 at the SSV titles. Both were record-breaking feats.
Vaitohi’s campaign at the Australian All Schools starts with heats of the under-16s 100m at 11.04am on Saturday. Semis are at 3.50pm and the final at 5.05pm.
In Sunday’s finale to the titles, Vaitohi will contest the under-16 200m heats from 10.50am, with the aim of qualifying for the 1.15pm final.
A student at Kilmore International School, Furletti will race the under-16s 2000m steeplechase around the Cairns track from 7.45pm on Friday.
Furletti will aim for a fast time in the under-16s 3000m.
Now racing for Old Melburnians, Symons will contest the under-18 110m hurdles heats from 8.50am on Saturday.
Symons is also in the field for the under-18s 400m hurdles.
