Gillies Famous Pies owner Simon Bush says it is not what is needed in the CBD, where trade is already tough for many.
“It’s hard enough as it is without this sort of rubbish going on,” he said.
The Queen Street business was closed on Monday as repairs were made to the door, with Mr Bush fearing that if brand new doors were needed they could cost as much as $4000.
He was hoping insurance would cover the damage.
“But you know what insurance can be like,” Mr Bush said said.
He would like to know who did it, and why.
Mr Bush learnt of the incident this morning and said it appeared someone had tried to get in by smashing glass and taking the door off the runner.
“They haven’t managed to get in but they’ve caused considerable amount of damage,” he said.
“I don’t know what they were after, whether it was a pie or a vanilla slice. I mean, there’s no money that is left on site.”
Monday was forecast to be the coldest day of the week, bringing with it greater potential for profits.
“As the week progresses you are up to 36 degrees. That is not really ideal (for pie sales),” Mr Bush said.
Gillies Famous Pies is expected to reopen Tuesday.
