INGLEWOOD celebrated its first victory of the BBD weekend pennant season with a win by the barest of margins against Kangaroo Flat on Saturday.
The Woods prevailed in a one-shot thriller at Kangaroo Flat, 90-89, in a result that lifted them off the bottom of the ladder.
Inglewood won the game despite having only one rink up – that of skipper Lindsay Kelly.
Kelly’s rink defeated Mitch Cole 33-16, with that result enough to cover the damage caused by Kangaroo Flat in the other three contests.
Kelly’s 16-shot victory continued what has been a strong season in which his rink is now 4-2.
While it was Inglewood’s first win of the season, the Woods had been knocking on the door given their five lead-up losses had included a pair of narrow defeats to Golden Square (five) and reigning premier Eaglehawk (four).
The defeat cost the Flat its position in the top four.
• A contest that promised plenty turned into a fizzer on Friday night as Bendigo East flexed its muscle at home against South Bendigo.
Even without coach Lee Schraner in the side, the Beasties destroyed South 112-75 under lights to improve to 6-0 and build a 16-point buffer at the top of the ladder.
The Beasties’ rinks of Robert Clough (32-17), Aaron Tomkins (31-18) and Chris Randell (29-16) all won by triple-figure margins and combined for 92 shots.
The only points from the game for South was Brad Holland’s 24-20 victory over Brad Marron.
South Bendigo has lost its past two games to slip from top to third.
