BRAYDEN Stepien took his impressive season with Premier Cricket club Carlton to another level on Saturday with a century in a comfortable win over Geelong.
The White Hills’ product had made four half-centuries in his first six innings with the Blues’ first XI this season before breaking through for a well-deserved ton.
The 21-year-old explosive opening batsman cracked 128 n.o. off 125 balls, striking 13 boundaries and four sixes.
Chasing Geelong’s 209 at Princes Park, the Blues – who are second on the ladder – cruised to victory by eight wickets, reaching 2-212 in the 38th over.
“It was good to get the monkey off the back with a hundred, but the most important thing was getting the win,” Stepien said on Sunday.
“The boys have been playing good cricket and performing well and getting wins is above any individual performances.”
Saturday was Stepien’s second career first XI century for the Blues after also making 108 n.o. in a Twenty20 game against Casey-South Melbourne in November last year.
In seven innings for Carlton this season Stepien has scores of 57, 53, 1, 80, 16, 72 and 128 n.o. – a total of 407 runs at an average of 67.8.
He also has 125 runs from three games with the Blues in the Victorian Super Slam competition.
