James Hird wore number 49 in his first handful of games for Essendon.
Dermott Brereton kicked-off his career in 47 for Hawthorn, while Glen Jakovich started in 48 for the West Coast Eagles.
Bendigo footy product Jye Caldwell is held in such high regard by the GWS Giants that he’s been given number five straight away.
The Giants announced their jumper numbers for 2019 on Friday, with high draft pick Caldwell given the number five vacated by Dylan Shiel.
“When Jye came our way at our first pick (in the draft) we were wrapt to get him to our club,’’ GWS coach Leon Cameron said on Friday.
Caldwell and his fellow first-year players started training with the Giants on Monday.
"We're going to be really cautious with them up until Christmas,'' Cameron said of the Giants draftees.
"Our main aim is for them to be ready to go on January 9.
"It's an exicting time and, no doubt, these boys will want to make an impact as soon as they can.
"It will be interesting to see how many of them play senior footy next year."
