BENDIGO’S Ahlise Hurst has produced a record-breaking performance for the University of New Mexico’s women’s basketball team.
In front of a home crowd of more than 5000 at “The Pit”, Hurst’s 39 points against Oklahoma this week set a new University of New Mexico freshman scoring record.
Hurst’s 39 points came in an 84-80 win for the Lobos over Oklahoma.
The 18-year-old shot 14-of-24 from the field and nailed a remarkable nine three-pointers.
“She has talent and we knew that… I am happy for her,” University of New Mexico coach Mike Bradbury said after Hurst’s stunning performance.
“The reason why she was in the starting line-up is because she is the best defender at that spot. Now, if she continues to shoot the ball well, that will help too.”
University of New Mexico – which plays in the Mountain West Conference of the NCAA women’s basketball – has an overall season record of 4-1.
University of New Mexico’s next game is against New Mexico State on Sunday morning Victorian time.
