The Fire jumped the Spirit early and there was no way back for the visitors.
Townsville went on to win 93-51 to move within one game of the fourth-placed Spirit.
The highlight of the night was Townsville star Suzy Batkovic breaking the WNBL all-time scoring record.
Midway through the third quarter Batkovic passed Rachel Sporn’s mark of 5824 career points.
Batkovic tormented the Spirit defence all night.
The veteran centre finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds in just 26 minutes of game time.
The Fire jumped to a 22-13 lead by quarter-time and had the points secured at half-time when the margin ballooned to 21 points.
The Spirit were more competitive in the third quarter, but the final term was humiliating as the Fire outscored the visitors 27-8.
Louella Tomlinson led the Spirit with 15 points, while Nadeen Payne added 11 points.
Imports Becca Tobin and Barbara Turner scored five points between them.
