Christopher Ellingburg appeared in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
His defence lawyer Anne-Marie Stephanides told the court she was in the process of obtaining medical reports on Mr Ellingburg, but noted her client had contact with 12 different medical practitioners or bodies, and Legal Aid funding to obtain records was limited.
Ms Stephanides said she was seeking psychological, psychiatric, GP and hospital reports.
It is alleged Mr Ellingburg falsely claimed he was from a legitimate charity and collected donations from members of the public in support of terminally ill children in Bendigo between October 2014 and October 2016.
Mr Ellingburg is also accused of stealing numerous household goods, including beds, bedside tables, a television, microwave, refrigerator and cooking utensils, in February 2017.
It is also alleged he caused $8560 worth of damage to property in Kennington.
Mr Ellingburg was bailed to appear at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on February 22.
