KANGAROO Flat’s latest recruit Hayden Pyke has been described as a “contested ball beast”.
Pyke continues the Roos’ productive off-season recruiting that has added experience to their list.
Pyke joins the Roos after playing the past two years with South Cairns.
“He’s a solidly-built midfielder and is a player who thrives on the contested footy… a lot of the feedback we’ve got from people who have watched Cairns footy is he’s a contested ball beast,” Roos coach Rob Bennett said on Friday.
“An area we identified early was we needed to add a couple of bigger bodies into our midfield to give the likes of Jono Lanyon, Corey Greer and Liam Collins a bit of a chop-out.
“So bringing in Hayden, as well as Scott Jansen, will help to fill those roles for us.
“All the guys who we’ve brought in to the club have played in successful sides and have experience.
“We had one of the youngest lists in the league and we wanted to surround those players with experienced, successful footballers.”
As well as Pyke and Jansen, the Roos’ off-season signings also include key forward Matt Boland, key position player Matt Clifford as an assistant coach and Daniel Rees.
The Roos will open their 2019 season at home against Sandhurst on April 13.
