Footage of the incident obtained by Nine News shows how closer cars came to being crushed by the out of control truck.
UPDATE 7.15am: One inbound lane of the Calder is now open with the other soon to follow.
UPDATE 6.30am: Green Gully Road has now reopened to traffic.
So has the inbound ramp from Green Gully road as well as Arundal Road.
UPDATE 6.10am: People heading to Melbourne this morning will be able to travel unimpeded after the truck left dangling from a Calder Freeway overpass was removed overnight.
A VicRoads spokesperson said crews worked feverishly into the early hours to allow traffic to flow.
Crews have installed temporary barriers and cleaned up along Green Gully Road.
“There was some talk of the clean-up going into peak hour but they have worked very hard in trying conditions to get chickens off the road,” they said.
Both inbound lanes of the freeway are to be reopened, though traffic will have to slow to 60km/h for a few hundred meters past the crash site.
The spokesperson thanked people for their patience.
UPDATE 10.15pm: Police have advised the Calder Freeway will remain closed overnight to traffic heading into Melbourne, and motorists should seek alternate routes.
Plan for delays.
UPDATE, 8pm: A Hazeldene’s spokeswoman has confirmed a Hazeldene’s trailer was involved in a crash this evening.
“The trailer was being towed by a contractor delivering products to a Coles store in Laverton,” she said. “The driver has minor injuries.”
VicRoads believes the inbound lanes to Melbourne will not be cleared before the morning’s peak hour on Wednesday.
It is recommended drivers consider using the Melton Highway, Sunbury Road or the Tullarmarine Freeway.
EARLIER: A B-double Hazeldene’s truck has been left dangling from a Calder Freeway overpass after rolling this evening.
Roads are closed with diversion in place as emergency service crews work to clear the scene.
The male driver of the truck has been assessed at the scene and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured during the incident.
Police understand the B-double hit a side barrier on the Green Gully Road overpass about 5.30pm, with the truck partially overhanging the Calder Freeway.
The truck's load has spilled over the barrier onto Green Gully Road below.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.
All city-bound lanes are closed. Diversions are in place onto Kings Road, Melton Highway and Sunshine Avenue to the M80 Ring Road.
