HUNTLY-North Epsom has won its first game of the BDCA season in the most stunning of fashion – coming from nowhere to upset Golden Square by one run on Saturday.
The game had looked a foregone conclusion when, chasing the Power’s 188 at Wade Street, Golden Square was cruising at 3-171 with skipper Ben Gunn (50) and Josh Baird (14) both well set at the crease.
Yet the Power showed tremendous belief and will to win and in a dramatic closing to the game took the last seven Golden Square wickets for just 16 runs to dismiss the previously unbeaten ladder-leader for 187 and win by the barest of margins.
“Everyone at the club is working really hard, so to get a win today like that is just fantastic,” Power skipper Elliott Massina said.
“When you haven’t had a lot of wins over a period of time you need to learn how to win again, so hopefully, the feeling we’ve got now is something we can build on and we can start to win a few more.”
The match-winning wicket was taken by Danushka Wijemanna (4-18), who had No.11 Corey Van Aken (0) caught at short mid-wicket by Anthony Tanner.
The Power’s one-run victory came after an early onslaught from Golden Square opener Tim Wood, who blasted 72 off 63 balls to continue his hot form.
With Square’s defeat it means every team now has at least one loss after four rounds.
