Treasurer Ann Horrocks said the group raised more than $2000 from the one-day event, which will cover the entire cost of the group’s scholarships for Year 11 students.
The group gives out three $400 bursaries and two $200 grants to students to support them in their continued study of art in Year 12.
“It was a good day, for the fact it was able to cover the scholarships,” Mrs Horrocks said.
She said some of the money raised would also go towards the gallery’s monthly Art and Tea event, during which a guest speaker presents on a topic related to exhibitions and the permanent collection.
EARLIER: Thousands of secondhand books are on offer in Bendigo this Saturday for the Friends of the Bendigo Art Gallery annual book fair.
Friends of the Bendigo Art Gallery is a volunteer group that assists the gallery with acquiring art through fundraising activities, such as the book fair.
But member Barbara Macumber said the money would also go towards visual arts bursaries for Year 11 students.
Mrs Macumber said the event had been held for the past three years.
The books on sale have been donated to the group from individuals and organisations such as Goldfields Library Corporation.
The book fair will run beside Bendigo Art Gallery until 3.30pm Saturday.
