BENDIGO United faces a monster chase of 300-plus for the second game in a row when it resumes its BDCA match against Strathdale-Maristians on Saturday.
The young Redbacks let the Suns off the hook on day one last week at Bell Oval.
At one stage Strathdale-Maristians was 4-31 and later 8-193 before blasting its way to 305 thanks to some late power hitting from No.10 Adrian Pappin (87 off 63).
Last round the Redbacks also had a target of over 300 to chase and made a good fist of it when they answered White Hills’ 360 with 343 on the back of a brilliant 201 to Jake Klemm.
“We’ll take a bit of confidence out of our effort chasing against White Hills last game,” Bendigo United captain Leigh McDermott said on Friday.
“We’ve chased in every game so far this season and have got better each game, so we can only approach it in a positive way.
“With 15 overs to go last week it was looking like we’d only be chasing around 200, but to have Adrian Pappin batting at No.10… no other team bats that deep.”
Such has been the recent changing of the guard at the Redbacks, captain McDermott and coach Miggy Podsoky are the only players in Saturday’s team who were part of the club’s 2016-17 grand final side that was beaten by Eaglehawk.
The Redbacks, who are 0-3, are one of two teams that have a target of more than 300 to chase on Saturday, with Bendigo to also pursue Kangaroo Flat’s 9-324 at the QEO.
• BDCA state of play:
Strathfieldsaye 173 v Eaglehawk
Golden Square v Huntly-North Epsom 188
Kangaroo Flat 9-324 v Bendigo (at QEO)
White Hills v Sandhurst 270
Strathdale-Maristians 305 v Bendigo United 0-2
Meanwhile, cash will be up for grabs for both players and spectators during Bendigo United’s Twenty20 match against Eaglehawk from 5.15pm next Tuesday, which will also double as the Redbacks’ junior party night.
Any player from either side that hits the Bendigo Windows signs displayed around Harry Trott Oval will receive $100, while any spectator who catches a six will pocket $50.
