VICTORIAN blind cricket team coach Andrew Walton describes Bendigo’s Zac Sheehan as a player who takes pride in all facets of his game.
Sheehan will once again represent Victoria at the upcoming National Cricket Inclusion Championships to be played in Geelong in January.
The 21-year-old is among 14 players who have been selected in the Victorian squad.
“Zac is a very important part of our team. He’s very solid with the bat, is an option with the ball and brings great energy in the field and the way in which he encourages his team-mates,” Walton said on Friday.
“He’s a player who takes tremendous pride in his performance and he certainly plays the game without any fear in the way in which he likes to put as much physical pressure on the batsmen as he can from his fielding position.
“He says he wants the batsmen to be able to feel his breath when he’s in close fielding… he really wants them to know that he’s in the game at all times.
“And as a character, he’s an excellent team-mate. He thinks and cares of his team-mates very deeply.
“Apart from his skill level, it’s as much about what Zac brings to the game from a character point of view that we really value with the Victorian group.”
This is the sixth time Sheehan has been selected to represent Victoria and he’s hoping to go one better than the 2018 championships earlier this year when the Vics narrowly lost the grand final to New South Wales by three runs.
Victoria will be joined at the championships by Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and newcomers Western Australia.
The National Cricket Inclusion Championships, which is a Twenty20 format, will be held from January 21 to 25.
Sheehan is again playing his club cricket this season with St Paul’s, where he is captain, in the four-team Victorian Blind Cricket Association.
