Related – Diving queen’s drug hell
One of central Victoria’s most famous sporting products was sentenced to three months jail on Thursday.
The ABC reported Olympic diving champion Chantelle Newbery fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court where she pleaded guilty to six counts of stealing, two counts of failure to appear and one count of contravening direction or requirement of police.
Newbery was sentenced to three months in prison on a wholly suspended sentence.
Newbery, who grew up in Castlemaine and trained for gymnastics and diving in Bendigo, has had a much-publicised fall from grace since her stunning diving career ended.
The 2004 gold medalist in the 10m platform event has had two stints in a Brisbane jail, battled drug addiction, depression and the death of her mother from cancer.
