STRATHFIELDSAYE’S Xavier Crone showed his prowess with the bat by making a half-century in the second innings of Victoria’s Futures League match against ACT/NSW Country on Wednesday.
Batting at No.8, Crone compiled 50 off 85 in an innings that featured four fours and two sixes.
He and Jonathan Merlo (116) added 100 for the seventh wicket in Victoria’s second innings total of 369 at the Junction Oval.
Meanwhile, Australia, which features Bendigo’s Tayla Vlaeminck in its squad, has booked its berth in the semi-finals of the Women’s World Twenty20 tournament.
Australia (7-153) defeated New Zealand (120) by 33 runs at Providence Stadium in Guyana to improve to 3-0 on Wednesday.
Vlaeminck didn’t play in the match.
