Mason achieved the fastest 100m time run in Athletics Bendigo competition at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road.
The Hawks’ young gun won the first of the 100m heats in 11 seconds and became the Centre record holder at open, under-18 and under-17 level.
At just 16 years of age, Mason blitzed the open record of 11.05 set by Nigel Self when he was racing for South Bendigo in October, 2014.
The 100m record followed Mason’s brilliant run of 22.51 in the 200m which broke the Centre record at under-18 and under-17 level.
Records tumbled in the 100m, 200m, 4 x 200m relay, high jump, and hammer throw.
World Masters decathlon champion for the 70-years class, Geoff Shaw from Bendigo Harriers added to his list of record-breaking achievements.
Shaw’s time of 30.97 in the 200m broke the Centre record he already held.
The finale to the track action was a thrilling 4 x 200m relay.
Athletes from Eaglehawk, Bendigo Harriers and South Bendigo joined forces to set a Victorian Masters record for the 45-49 years class.
The line-up of Eaglehawk’s Toni Phillips, Bendigo Harriers’ Anne Buckley, South Bendigo’s Debby Kirne, and Eaglehawk’s Kathryn Heagney clocked a superb time of 2:32.65.
A memorable afternoon began with the hammer throw.
South Australia’s Jett Carlin achieved a state record mark of 66.56 metres for the under-16 age group.
Carlin competes with Northern District and is the nephew of Sean Carlin, an Olympian in ’92 and ’96, and gold medallist in hammer at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, and 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada.
Another of the Bendigo region’s hammer throwers, Eaglehawk’s Martin Fryer also marked another record-breaking feat.
Fryer’s best of 21.96m broke the Centre record for the 70-plus class.
At high jump, South Bendigo’s Trudy Haines cleared the 1.32m mark and now holds the Centre record for the 40-plus division.
Round six in Athletics Victoria Shield action starts at 1.30pm next Saturday at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex.
