Whether it’s as a player, coach, umpire, committee member or her current position as president of Wedderburn’s local sports club, she is determined to give it her all.
Mrs Lockhart has been announced as the Loddon Shire finalist for the Sports Focus Administrator of the Year Award for her contribution to the Wedderburn Redbacks.
One of her biggest achievements was being involved in the amalgamation of the football, netball and hockey clubs to create the Redbacks, a process which she said wasn’t possible without assistance from numerous other club members.
“We arranged for a working party to come together with representatives from each club and covered how the new club would be set up, ensuring it would be inclusive for all members,” Mrs Lockhart said.
The merger made Mrs Lockhart the first female president of an amalgamated club within the North Central League.
Her love for sport is more than evident. However, netball will always remain her true passion.
“I’m driven by my competitive nature, some would say I have white-line-fever,” Mrs Lockhart laughed.
“Once I’m out on the court, I always do my best to try and win.”
Looking to the future her plan is to focus on increasing junior participation, as she described the club as being in a “dire situation” with low numbers.
“We barely have the minimum number of participants and we are doing everything we can to improve,” Mrs Lockhart said.
“It’s a difficult situation. Children are out working on the weekends, which is great they are being employed, but it takes them away from Saturday sport.”
Beyond the benefits of physical exercise, she said being part of a club as a junior taught you many things about life.
“You learn about helping others within your club but also the importance of giving back to your community,” she said.
