Jaymes Todd, 19, of Broadmeadows, confessed last week in Melbourne Magistrates Court, which heard he followed the 22-year-old from Flinders Street Station for 5km across the city.
Ms Dixon was walking home from performing a comedy gig at the Highlander Club on June 12.
Todd attacked Ms Dixon at Carlton North's Princes Park, with a passerby finding her body about 3am on June 13.
Todd handed himself in to police later that day, but initially denied involvement.
On Tuesday, the former student formally pleaded guilty to murder, rape, attempted rape and sexual assault.
Todd, who appeared in the dock wearing a grey shirt, blue jeans, black canvas sneakers and with shaved hair, returns to court on April 9 for a two-day plea hearing ahead of sentencing.
