The Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen from Lobb Street, Detective Senior Constable Andrew Heazlewood said.
The vehicle had been at the address of the victim’s friend.
CFA crews were called to the Long Gully Community Centre at about 4am Saturday morning to find the car alight.
“The vehicle itself has been examined for evidence, which has given some indication into how and why the vehicle was burnt,” Detective Senior Constable Heazlewood said.
“Police would appeal for any witnesses in the Lobb Street, Bendigo area, or in the area around Havilah Road, Long Gully area. If they saw or heard anything, and we have not been in contact with them so far, could they contact police.”
Anyone with information should contact the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300 or contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000. They can also make a report online at crimestoppers.com.au.
