Mrs Carr has been involved with tennis in Maryborough for nearly 20 years, taking up various committee roles before becoming the president of the town’s tennis club in 2010.
Mrs Carr has been announced as the Central Goldfields Shire finalist for the Sports Focus Administrator of the Year Award for her contribution to the Maryborough Lawn Tennis Club.
“I volunteer because I love seeing people being physically active,” Mrs Carr said.
“I enjoy the involvement and the work, I put in a lot of hard work to see the fruits of our labour.
“It’s a team effort. I can’t do my work without the assistance from the committee and contributions from the club’s members.”

During Mrs Carr’s time as president she has been integral to securing funding grants which helped the club maintain its lawn courts and construct new artificially surfaced courts which require less maintenance and help reduce operating costs at the tennis centre.
However, her major passion is assisting her husband Brian Carr – a Tennis Australia qualified coach – with the club’s “grass roots level” ANZ Hot Shots program.
“We want to ensure children participate in tennis and enjoy their experience so they play well into their adult years,” Mrs Carr said.
“Getting kids physically active and promoting healthy living is important and it’s a great way for them to socialise with other children.”
