EAGLEHAWK inflicted the biggest loss Bendigo has suffered in BBD weekend pennant for five seasons with a 42-shot demolition at home on Saturday.
The Hawks crushed Bendigo 112-70, with the rout led by a return to form of the rink of Simon Carter.
Carter’s rink had lost its opening three games of the season, but hit back strongly with a 33-10 hiding of Torie Babitsch’s rink.
Eaglehawk had all four rinks up in what was the reigning premier’s third win in a row following its shock loss to Golden Square in the opening round.
Bendigo – which had Damian Broderick skipping in place of the absent Ian Ross – has now lost two in a row after earlier making a 2-0 start.
The 42-shot margin was Bendigo’s biggest loss since it fell by 44 shots to Eaglehawk in round two of 2013-14.
• South Bendigo has taken over top spot on the ladder following its 20-shot away victory over Inglewood.
South defeated the Woods 104-84 to improve to 4-0 in what was a performance where it had the rinks of Mitch Sidebottom (+8), Liam Crapper (+8) and Jason Turley (+6) all prevail.
The defeat leaves Inglewood as the only team still without a victory.
• Castlemaine lifted itself off the bottom of the ladder thanks to its opening win of the season.
The Maine put a hat-trick of hidings in the first three games behind it to beat Golden Square 97-91 at home.
Both teams won two rinks apiece, but it was the 28-15 win by Peter Brain over Tas Wallis that gave the ascendancy to Castlemaine.
• Bendigo East withstood a spirited challenge from Kangaroo Flat at home to win 104-100 and keep its unbeaten record intact.
The closest of the contests was the 21-20 win of Bendigo East’s Lee Schraner over Cameron Wilson.
Schraner’s is now the competition’s only unbeaten rink.
