Girton Grammar School students have honoured those who fought and died in the line of duty during a special ceremony ahead of Remembrance Day.

This year marks 100 years since the signing of the Armistice, which signified the end of the First World War. The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front has become universally associated with a one-minute silent reflection, which over 1000 staff and students observed at 11.00am on Friday.
Headmaster Matthew Maruff said that students from the junior school made individual red poppies, which were placed around a 2.5m tall white cross on the Londonderry oval before the ceremony.
“It is important for members of the school and wider community to take the time to reflect upon the hardships of war and pay our respects to those who have sacrificed their mind, body and spirit for their country,” he said.
