Melbourne Cup has been overrun by racing imports
The race that has been for many years (The Race That Stops The Nation) is sadly disappearing like many other things that our country built it self on. One of them being the car industry.

Our politicians have already stopped the nation with policies that are hurting our economy, scrapping of the automotive industry, free trade agreements lack of support for our farmers along with their neglect to support climate changes and policies and many more that can be added to the list. Not really sure if they have actually stopped the boats yet!
The Melbourne Cup has been the Australian race, that did have horses from our New Zealand neighbours but now is being high jacked by international hoses from around the world.
This year’s race saw nearly half the field from international imports. That is only assisting rich people with money that can afford the high entry fee.
The increasing prize money is, again, going to owners who have more money than they know what they to do with.
This year’s winner [Cross Counter] proves that. The owner [His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, owner of Godolphin] has been trying for around 30 years to win the cup. Why? Because he has wealth to do so.

Our local battling trainer wouldn’t or couldn’t afford to do that year after a year.
It is also affecting the breeding industry. Owners are not supporting our studs, breeding our own stayers instead breeding sprint distance horses.
I realise that this is possibly a boost to our nation in tourists etc. but should it be at the expense of our own racing industry, local breeders, trainers and owners?
If this trend is allowed to continue it won’t be long before that the field will be an all international field of horses.
Our locals will have no hope whatsoever. Big dollars will go to the rich going overseas instead of supporting the local industry racing clubs, picnic meetings, to improve facilities for racing and training the trainers, owners and jockeys and spectators.
Unfortunately our great nation is becoming everyone elses.

Victory on ECT but more needs to be done
Victory for those with chronic mental health illness sectioned into psychiatric care in Bendigo.
For many years, sadly, Bendigo has been the leading user of compulsory ECT under sectioning in Victoria.
These figures are two times the size of the next in the State according to Department of Health figures and is frightening when taken in light of the outcome of this recent decision in the Supreme Court.
Our local ECT system is badly out of touch with advocacy for patient best interest.
I have more than 25 years, as an advocate, for those who have mental health (injury) issues and much more needs to be addressed.
Much more than another inquiry. It needs education, cash injection and compassion.
