Bendigo nurse and comedian Cath Styles will host a one-night only show to raise money for a project she is planning to take to Uganda.
Styles has been a comedian for 12 years but by day she is a psychiatric nurse.
After sponsoring a little girl through the Little Angels Needy Children and Orphans Project in Uganda, Stlyes realised the need for a swimming program after visiting Uganda.
She hopes to establish the Angel Fish swimming program by raising $6000.
“I was there in May doing trek and visiting sponsors and discovered a lot people drown in lakes each year,” she said.
“So (with a program like this) they'll be safe and increase their opportunities for jobs in resorts around the lakes. This is the first step.
“Usually, I do with Bendigo Health for Mental Health Week but it focused on other things this year so I chose to self-produce this to raise funds my project.”
Her show – Darkness and Light – will feature comedians Nick Cody and Rhys Nicholson, The Aspie Hour cabaret performers Sophie Smyth and Ryan Smedley (who both has Asperger’s Syndrome) and Bendigo musician Steph Bitter.
Bitter will perform a song written by Liam Thorpe – the man who sadly died while cycling along Bendigo Creek in July.

Thorpe, who was also a psychiatric nurse, worked alongside Styles.
“He was big supporter (of me) and good friend of mine,” she said. “So I thought it would be nice to do that for him.”
Styles has had a busy year with performances at the Bendigo Comedy Festival, the Melbourne Comedy Festival the Adelaide Fringe Festival and this show, which is close to her heart.
“I’m really happy with the line-up, it’s one of best I have ever put together,” she said.
“I love the idea of a community like Bendigo giving to a project like this for a community on other side of world.”
Cath Styles present Darkness and Light at The Capital on November 16 from 7.30pm. Head to www.gotix.com.au for more tickets and information.
