The town’s annual racing day went off without a hitch and was enjoyed by all in attendance, with racing, fashion, family and fun all in the spotlight.
For the race of the day, trainer Darren Weir and jockey John Allen found success with Another Coldie to win the Kyneton Cup, followed by New Zealand horses Rhythm to Spare in second and Our Big Mike in third.
Lisa Evans from Country Racing Victoria said the Cup was a major day on Kyneton’s calendar.
“It’s amazing to hold such a great racing event each year, it’s a major part of our local community,” Ms Evans said.
“We’ve tried really hard to make it a family friendly event with roving entertainment and activities for the kids by The Zone Bendigo.
“There’s something for everyone.”
Most of the excitement for the day could be found off the track at the Watergardens Fashion on the Field.
Contestants competed in a range of categories including Macedon Ranges Lady of the Day, Most Impressive Millinery and Lady of the Day.
Fashion on the Field judge Mini Latif said a contestants smile was the first thing she looked at.
“I vote a lot on personality and then it comes through the eyes all the way down to the shoes,” Ms Latif said.
Jennifer Beachey was named as Macedon Ranges Lady of the Day with a custom made hat from a milliner she met on Facebook and a stunning green dress to match.
The award for Most Impressive Millinery was given to Bridget Aldridge for a custom made hat crafted in Warrnambool.
“I showed my milliner the dress and she made the hat accordingly. Every girl loves a big hat,” Ms Aldridge laughed.
The overall Lady of the Day was awarded to Michelle Robinson who was dressed in a purple dress with a hat she made herself “which had been sitting around the house for a while”.
“No way did I think I would be the winner,” Ms Robinson said.
“The fashions at Kyneton are always amazing, especially today there are some incredible outfits around.
“All the women go to such a huge effort and it’s such a privilege to be given a sash today.”
Acting Sergeant Curtis Dillon of the Kyneton Police praised the behaviour of the well behaved crowd.
“We had no issues at all, everyone was very well behaved,” the Acting Sergeant said.
“Everyone had a terrific day out at a family friendly community event.
“Highway Patrol units will also be conducting operations throughout the area.”
